The Five Phases — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water — describe the living patterns through which qi flows, transforms, and supports each stage of creation and completion.

I · The Framework
What: the frame the whole work reads through. San Cai — Heaven, Earth, and Man: Heaven is timing and conditions, Earth is place and resources, Man is action and will. Wu Xing — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water: five behaviors of qi, not five substances. Wood begins, Fire expresses, Earth nourishes, Metal releases, Water rests; each generates the next.
