WOOD Spring FIRE Summer EARTH Transitions METAL Autumn WATER Winter WU WEI effortless action

The five elements cycle clockwise: Wood → Fire → Earth → Metal → Water → Wood. Each phase governs a season. Wu Wei sits at the center — the still point that reads the wheel.

What is this calendar for?

This is not a planner for appointments or deadlines. It is a physical map of real-world energy — tracking the seasonal shifts of temperature, light, and soil moisture across 365 days. It tells you what nature is doing right now, so you can align your effort with the current instead of pushing against it. That alignment is Wu Wei: effortless action that rides natural momentum instead of fighting it.

Where does this fit in the system?

The temple's path from theory to practice passes through five gates. This calendar is the fifth — Gate 5: Rhythm. Here is the path:

GateNameWhat you do there
Gate 1StillnessPause. Find the still center (the Hinge) before any action. Without this, every step is reaction, not choice.
Gate 2PatternRead the patterns already at work — San Cai (Three Powers) and Wu Xing (Five Elements). Diagnosis before action.
Gate 3AlignmentApply Wu Wei. Find where the current is already flowing and work with it. The right action is the smallest action.
Gate 4ActionCross the bridge. Pick a blueprint and do the work. Theory becomes practice.
Gate 5RhythmYou are here. Track the seasonal cycle so your practice deepens over time, not in a weekend. The other four gates repeat — this one keeps them in time.

Gates 1 through 4 are about doing the work. Gate 5 is about timing the work — knowing which season favors which action, so you are not forcing a harvest in spring or planting in winter. The calendar below is the tool for that.

How does the calendar work?

Nature operates through five distinct energy phases, shown in the wheel above. Each phase governs a season and drives a specific kind of growth. The calendar maps your tasks directly to whichever phase is active, so your output meets minimum friction.

Below, each phase is broken into three tracks — Land & Soil, Web & Code, and Body & Stamina. Pick the track that matches your work today and follow the actions listed for the active element. Hold back out-of-season tasks to avoid burning energy against the current.

What should I do in each phase?

🌿 Wood Phase Spring — Rising Force

Ground thaws; heat and moisture rise upward. Energy breaks through subterranean tension.

Land & Soil
Break dirt, sow seeds, set bamboo tripod stakes, initiate bed prep.
Web & Code
Register subdomains, publish static HTML/JS files, launch new page templates.
Body & Stamina
Stretch tendons, open circulation, establish new morning physical routines.
Fire Phase Summer — Peak Reach

Peak daylight and maximum heat. Outward expansion, rapid growth, and high volume.

Land & Soil
Heavy clearing under full sun, hauling materials, maximum physical work.
Web & Code
Active public promotion, driving channel traffic, running high-visibility pushes.
Body & Stamina
High-intensity effort, rapid focus blocks, burning high fuel.
🌾 Earth Phase Seasonal Transitions — Grounding

High humidity and damp soil (18-day inter-seasonal nodes). Growth stabilizes and fruit sets.

Land & Soil
Amend sand with manure and pea gravel, check Olla pot irrigation, balance beds.
Web & Code
Clean code snippets, optimize server cache, purge unused assets, fix bugs.
Body & Stamina
Nourish digestion with warm foods, rebuild tissue, rest after major pushes.
Metal Phase Autumn — Contracting & Harvest

Crisp, dry air. Foliage dries and drops; sap retracts down toward the roots.

Land & Soil
Pick mature crops, strip dead vines, clear dry brush from fields and beds.
Web & Code
Collect invoices, close active proposals, purge legacy floating chat scripts.
Body & Stamina
Shed bad habits, clear lungs with focused breathwork, single-task with sharp focus.
💧 Water Phase Winter — Deep Storage

Cold ground and minimal daylight. Life force retreats deep underground into total stillness.

Land & Soil
Step inside the shop, sharpen augers, repair hand tools, plan next year's layout.
Web & Code
Hold new launches, audit core site architecture, review analytics, conserve bandwidth.
Body & Stamina
Protect lower back and kidney energy, apply moxibustion/heat, engage deep rest.

What should I do today?

You came to this page for a reason — you have work to do and you want to know if now is the right time. This walkthrough will take you through it step by step. You will answer four short questions about your season, your work, your specific task, and your timing. At the end you get a one-page action plan with your committed action, the Wu Wei principle for this phase, and the next step. It takes about two minutes. Start below.

1 What season is it?

Late Summer / Transitional covers those in-between periods — the damp shift from summer to autumn, or early spring mud — when growth pauses and the ground is heavy. If you are between two seasons, pick the one you are transitioning into.
